According to a recent report of CNN, UberMedia, a California based company which develops third-party applications for various social media like Twitter is planning to form its own social network competitor to twitter that “could compete with that popular micro blogging platform.”
CNN cites three people (who were not authorized to speak publicly) have been briefed on the plans as its source. They say,
“The service would seek to attract users by addressing common complaints about Twitter, such as its restriction on the length of a message and how it can be confusing to newcomers, according to these sources, who were not authorized to speak publicly about the plans.”
CNN also says UberMedia’s Twitter alternative might be a “just in case” backup plan, only to be employed if links with Twitter break down.
However, Apps of UberMedia that allow users to interact with twitter without using Twitter applications include UberSocial (a twitter client), Echofon (twitter for android devices) and Twidroyd (iPhone/iPad/computer synchronization). Many people favor UberMedia’s features and interface to the twitter products.
Many companies have tried to compete with Twitter earlier but have failed to do so. It seems that UberMedia is hoping to heave its user base in building its powerful network. Although, it is vital for companies like UberMedia to expand their options and scope and decrease platform dependence, but it is not necessary their plan will actually work.
“Our foremost desire is to continue to innovate on the Twitter platform and bring more users and usage to Twitter,” UberMedia CMO Steve Chadima said in a statement to CNN.
Question arises that do we need another twitter? Certainly not. But we’d consider using a better Twitter.
