Google’s Response on Bounce Rate Issue And Resulting Alarm For The Websites

At the time when major search engines are fighting for their reputation and the websites are using dirty tricks to land on the top pages in organic results, it is quite obvious that Google was forced to resort to a major algorithm update! No search engine would ever want to compromise on its ability to search specific results. Google is no exception!

When the executives of the major search engines are grappling with the menace of the black hat strategies to land on high ranks, it was unlikely that the problem of bouncing may have gone unnoticed. It has a direct bearing on increased user-frustration. The world over search engine metrics is changing. Search engines do not want the SEO garbage on top of their search results. Panda, a search engine took the lead and removed such irrelevant websites which led to unwanted content from the targeted keywords.

A continuous trend of bouncing was noticed, that too within a few seconds of landing onto those websites. That meant clearly that these people were resorting to some highly unacceptable practices to trick the search engines into appearing as content rich websites. In fact some of these websites were merely a search engine for more irrelevant information and products.

There are strong signals that Google is reviewing its take on the bouncing issue as an important element of ranking. High bounce rate and less time on site ratio is a crucial factor for the reputation and originality of the website. Even the content farms are a victim of similar issues as they are hijacked by masses for unethical commercial use. The bounce rate is high there too.

Though Google sounds to be very serious with high trust and good content issues, it is still reluctant to act against the bounce rate directly. The major reason for bouncing as cited by Google’s Matt Cutts is the low site speed. So he encouraged the websites to increase their site speed. Which can be thought to be a strong hint why bounce rate is indirectly haunting Google too. One more reason attributed by Google to a high bounce rate is the irrelevancy of the landing pages.

So it is an alarm to the websites too that they should add attractive features and more specific content or at least links to relevant content on every page that a user can land onto. One more thing that they can do is to increase site speed and promote their website for the keywords they actively work upon and update their content. To sum up, in post Panda world where bounce rate is not something to be ignored, websites should alert themselves to prove their point that they deserve to be ranked at top positions.
