Facebook’s Search Patent… A Threat to Google?

Deals and Locations can add to the existing competition

A patent that was awarded to FB a month back has suddenly gained momentum and has started getting attention it actually deserved in first place. The original post which was released as “Visual tags for search outcome generated from social network info” was a patent that was made official about a month back.

The official description for this patent stated that search results, whether in reference to algorithmic results or sponsored links, are spawned in response to queries that are posted by members on social networks. The markers which define these entail an image or a text string usually enclosed as a “visual tag”.

An expert at Search Engine Land later commented that Google is now getting increasingly focused towards what is called patenting on social search podium.

Facebook is the real king ruling search engines platform among the Social Networking Sites. Getting social search is just the way it should be in the first place, will Google be able to accomplish this in similar stats as FB. Still it’s not so difficult to answer this question to Google. At least till FB continues to dominate the social communication scenario.

Facebook is a very prominent contender to Google in search market and this new patent adds more fuel to the fire already existing. Facebook prepared to give a tough competition have before now started working full fledged on this trend by adding new, improved features.

Facebook with its authenticity and ease have literally taken over the social scenario on web by storm. In the meantime, FB not just in the social search fields, they are also working on Deals (With regular updates regarding new offers and notifications as to when these Deals will be made available in your area, the service is already functional at Atlanta, Austin, San Diego, Dallas and San Francisco.)

Things getting build up are creating a great interest amongst all and specially companies like FourSquare and Groupon. FaceBook with its Deals somehow have experienced a biased opinion from users, while some say it’s a great going, still others say it’s not that much in demand and is just hype at the end.

So, let’s say that Deals and Locations are two prominent fields, where both aces in its respective fields, Facebook and Google will continue to compete for the first spot. Well, who will come out to be real winner in the end is something only time will decide. Till then, let’s just say this new move by FB is not a threat to Google’s popularity, in case if it is, then only time will decide.
