Is There New Age TV War Between Google and Apple?

The recent announcement by Google to launch its TV has sparked up a discussion regarding the commencement of a war with Apple TV which was launched earlier this month. Comparisons are bound to happen as the two developments have taken place within a short time span hinting at the competition. Before making any statement let us first look into what these two offer.

Google TV – With Google TV, Google aims to enter into the living room segment and provides the platform to access Internet on TV. In other words, it will be an Internet enabled TV.

Apple TV – Apple TV is a device that can be used to play digital content like music, videos, photos, etc from local internet network or media such as iTunes, You Tube, etc.

Approaches – Both Google TV and Apple TV have different appeals. While Google wishes to capture the consumers in living room, Apple TV is targeted to address the needs of niche customers with focus on Mobile applications.

War Quotient – There doesn’t seem to be an actual war as both have their different target segments to cater to. Google TV is for time being considered to be more equipped to lead the race but only time will tell how these fair in the market.
